Lunch With My Lover

Pictures Taken With My Tripod

When: Friday, January 27, 2012

Where: I was off work, so I met Matt for lunch and then picked our son up from school.  Who knows what the rest of the day will bring?

What:  Dress - Merona; Cardigan - Mossimo; Tights - Kmart; Boots - Simple; Necklace - Belterra Boutique; Bracelet - Gift; Earrings - Gift; Belt - Mossimo

Did anyone else notice the cat in the previous pic?  Maybe it's because I'm home more than ever, but Cleo has been especially needed lately...  Oh well.  Back to the post.  This is a tshirt dress I bought for our trip to Jamaica this past summer.  It's so comfy and I grab for it all the time.  It may be a little short - but I don't feel so self-conscious about it when I have the tights on.

Matt bought me this sweater for Christmas.  It's the Boyfriend Sweater from my Wish List!  Him and his mom bought me so many things from the list for the holidays - it was awesome!  I'm thinking I'll have to make wish lists more often!!! I have a few more things I haven't posted about that are from the list - so I'll be getting to those soon!

The necklace I purchased from a small fashion boutique in Belterra Casino.  It's one of those places where everything is $10.  I instantly fell in love with this piece and I wear it with many different things.  The earrings were a gift from a co-worker at my old job.  It was one of those things where she bought them for herself, wore them, and decided she didn't like them that much.  Her loss is my gain!!  She did that a couple times, like with this grey sweater.  The bracelet is a gift from my Momma.  If you read my blog regularly, you've definitely seen it before.  Love this piece.  Same with the Simple boots.  Another favorite item of mine.  They're old but they are awesome.  The belt is from a dress that Matt gave me for Christmas (another wish list item).  I haven't worn the dress yet, but I plan on it soon!

How cool is it that I could meet my husband for lunch?!?!  We had Indian food - it's one of our favorite ethnic foods to eat.  YUM!  I was glad I could help him by making him take his lunch and get out of the office (something he doesn't always do).  I was sad when we had to leave and go our separate ways though...  Oh well.  I was able to post this blog to make the time go by, waiting for him to come home!

RN Attire

So as I mentioned before, I came home and took some pictures in my uniform for fun.  Heehee - I know...  Not very fashionable...  But I wanted to do something different for a minute (and show off my cool nursing digs).

When:  Wednesday, January 25, 2012

What:  Scrub top and bottom - Landau; Watch - Casio; Shoes - Nike; Socks - ??

Where:  Work at my new job!

All RNs at my hospital wear navy scrubs.  It's an easy way for patients to identify who is who on the unit as other staff and personal wear different colors depending on their job title.  Since there isn't much else to say about navy blue scrubs I'll go onto the accessories.

My semi-new Casio watch!  I loved the color and I liked how it was made of a soft and comfortable plastic and I don't have to worry about water when washing my hands all day long.  I also liked it cause I could use military time (the standard in medicine).  My shoes are the same tennis shoes I've been wearing since my nursing school clinicals.  They still are in great shape and they treat my feet quite nicely when I'm on them all day.

Nurses wear uniforms.  It's kind of boring obviously...  So it seems many nurses like to add a little personality with their socks!  I personally own only 4 pairs of white socks while the rest have various patterns and colors.  I was made for the fun sock band wagon and I've been kicking it the entire time!  I love these argyle ones!  And finally, I had to take a picture of my pockets.  I picked out these particular scrubs because they have this little pen/pencil/highlighter holder.  I love it!  No more fishing for my pen at the bottom of my already stuffed pockets!

Well, there you have it!  Scrubs #1.  I have another, completely different pair (still navy blue obviously).  They are actually a little more stylish (which meant they cost more money) so maybe next week I'll take some more scrubs pics?

Can't you tell my cat missed me?  Cleo won't leave me alone when I come home from work until I stop whatever I'm doing and give her my undivided attention for at least 10 minutes....

Still Here

Pictures taken by my tripod

When:  Monday, January 23, 2012

What: Top - Forever 21 +; Sweater - Sonama; Skinny Jeans - Lane Bryant; Scarf - Lane Bryant; Sweater Boots - Sketchers; Bracelet - Mizoutlet.com

Where:  Off work today, so I cleaned up the house, did some grocery shopping, started dinner in the crock pot and of course, homework time with my son.

I'm alive!  I'm here!  I've just been a bad little blogger....  I started my new job a few weeks ago and it's been keeping me busy and engaged most days of the week (even when I'm off work...  SHEESH!)  But yes, I'm still here.  I have made a renewed contract with myself to blog more often.  I really appreciate all the messages and comments you all have left in my absence!  You rock!

Onto the outfit details.  Since it's an off day and I was simply running errands and cleaning around the house, I went for something casual.  Some of you might have noticed...  This is the striped shirt I had on my Christmas Wish List!  My mother-in-law gave it to me!  I really love it!  I don't love that it's supposed to be hand wash only...  Pain!

Do you guys know about Miz Outlet?  They sell costume jewelry at an unbelievable price!  Now, yeah, it's not the best stuff, but for the money, I have enjoyed every piece I have ever bought from them.  (Also - spend $20 and you get free shipping!)  Miz Outlet is where I purchased this bracelet.  I bought the CHI variety.  This scarf I purchased from Lane Bryant a few years back.  It was my first fashion scarf purchase and I still love it.  And because it's January (almost over though!!!) I wore my sweater boots.  They are just too easy to pull on and because of this I wear them often.

Sorry again for being so absent...  I promise do to better.  I started a "to-do" list for my days off, and I have placed blogging on there too!  I really did miss it too - it's just one of those things that got away from me somehow...  (Also - Pinterest has been taking up all my time lately!  I'm officially addicted!  Follow me (Luckeysgoods)!

In other news - I LOVE MY NEW JOB!  Nursing school was not an easy thing to complete, but it was well worth it!

Hope you all have a great week!

Corporate Week

Photots Taken by My Tripod

When:  Wednesday, January 11, 2012

What:  Dress - Sealed With A Kiss; Cardigan - Lane Bryant; Skinny Belt - Lane Bryant; Tights - Kmart; Boots - Trusol; Necklace - Gift from friend; Earrings - ??

Where - Corporate orientation, grocery store, and then home for the usual help with my son's homework, make dinner, and chill on the couch (add some laundry in there too)...

I started my new job this week.  My new nursing job!  But all this week I am at their corporate headquarters, learning how to use their computer system, watching PowerPoint after PowerPoint after PowerPoint of rules, regulations, and procedures...  Next week I get to be on the floor!  But for now I am in a classroom, and I am supposed to be wearing "business casual".  So here was my look for the day!  I actually got a compliment from a total stranger in the cafeteria.  We were walking passed each other and she said "I love your outfit".  That was cool!

This necklace was given to me by a friend a few years ago.  She had taken a vacation to Florida and bought it from a woman who made and sold jewelry on the beach!  A girl can never go wrong with a simple pair of hoop earrings.  And the cuff is a favorite piece of mine that you can see me wear all the time.  Definitely a staple.

I took these pictures really quick in my kitchen.  We had a full schedule tonight but it's been too long since I have posted an OOTD post and I wanted to get one in!

Speaking of kitchen...  I made this great recipe from Skinnytaste.com - meatball and spaghetti soup!  This one was a huge hit with the entire family.  I took pictures of it too - so look for an upcoming post about it!

Weekly Recap In Photos

Hope everyone had a good first week of the new year!  We were busy getting back to the swing of things as my son had to go back to school.  I also finished my last week at my current job!

1.  Tuesday, January 3 - This is bad what I'm about to tell you...  A couple of years ago my mom gave me a Kitchen Aid stand mixer for my birthday.  I just got it out of the box this past Tuesday!  I know, I know...  The problem is, though I love to cook, I'm not much of a baker, so I rarely have a reason to use such an awesome kitchen appliance!  2.  Tuesday, January 3 - I finally broke out the stand mixer because it was my son's half birthday this week.  They let the kids with summer birthday's celebrate their half birthday so they can have a little party at school.  I made homemade chocolate chip cookies and they were so good.  I probably ate about 6 cookies worth of dough...  Oops!  3.  Wednesday, January 4 - Since the cookies turned out so well,  I got the mixer out again the next night!  4.  Wednesday, January 4 - I made Weight Watcher's Blueberry Streusel Muffins.  Man were they tasty, and at 6 points each, they were totally worth it.  Everyone in my family liked them.

5.  Thursday, January 5 - I've been on a mostly healthy kick lately, (emphasis on the mostly of course).  On Thursday I made another Weight Watcher's recipe, artichoke quiche.  I really enjoyed this one, but then, I really like quiche and I love artichokes!  I didn't do a post for either recipe, but if anyone is interested, let me know in the comments and I can get you the recipe!  6.  Friday, January 6 - Friday was my last day at work.  I have been a Safety Director for over six years now.  A co-worker brought me these beautiful flowers!  I just loved the yellow, green, and orange colors, and they still look beautiful in my dining room today!  7.  Friday, January 6 - I waited till my last day to clean out my office.  That's six-plus years of stuff right there.  I actually thought it was going to be more!  Honestly, it's mostly nursing school stuff.  8.  Saturday, January 7 - With all the holiday hustle and bustle being on the weekends, we waited till this past weekend to have our get-together for Christmas with our friends.  This year we did a sleep over theme where we all wore our pajama's.  But in this picture, I am also wearing what I got for our Dirty Santa exchange - a tacky Christmas vest.  I told everyone we have to have a Christmas sweater party next year now - I'm all set!

I'll Tell You About Myself

Last year (heehee - okay like 6 days ago) Becks, author of the style blog oomph, nominated me for the Tell Me About Yourself Blogger Award!  YAY ME!  It was extremely sweet as I am an avid reader of her fabulous blog. (Her blog is very popular and she does such a good job!  Go check it out, like NOW!)

So, being a newbie "fashion" blogger, I actually had no idea what this award meant.  I didn't know what to do.  So I started googling and I found that I am supposed to tell my readers 7 things about me they may not know!  So without further ado - here we go!

1.  I'm an ex-vegetarian.  Back in 2005 I was at a huge turning point in my life.  My life was changing rapidly as I had left my ex-husband, was becoming a single mom, and had to figure out how to raise my son all on my own.  I also wanted to change my attitude about myself and change my body.  I did a lot of research on ways to lead a healthy lifestyle and after reading many books and articles, I became a full-fledged vegetarian overnight.  It was great.  I felt better, I lost 45 pounds, and it gave me a sense of purpose.  Examples - I was saving water a little bit (wasn't eating livestock) and I wasn't killing any animals either (note - I did not become a vegetarian to save animals - it was a nice perk and animals are nice and all - but that wasn't the reason for my decision).  This past summer, after 5 + years of being a vegetarian I reverted back to eating flesh.  My now current husband and I had booked our honeymoon at an all inclusive resort in Jamaica.  I was freaking out about the food as I didn't want to spend my vacation eating the same vegetable blend or pasta dish everyday.  So little by little I started to introduce meat back into my diet.  Maybe one day I'll go back to being a full time vegetarian, I still cook a lot of veggie friendly dishes as that's an old habit now.  The funniest thing about eating meat again, when my brother found out, he was really disappointed.  He told me he always thought it was cool to tell friends that his sister was a vegetarian...  LOL!

2.  Speaking of which, I have a brother.  He is my younger brother.  We are two and a half years a part, so we are pretty close.  I can't call him my little brother though, not any more anyway.  He's 6'8"!!!  I'm barely 5'8".  It's kind of crazy to talk to him up close.  You literally have to look up.

3.  I was a HUGE BAND GEEK in high school.  I was such a big music nerd not only was I in pit band for basketball games, concert band, jazz band, band for the musicals the drama club would put on, concert band, and marching band, I was also the drum major of our high school's marching band my senior year!  Not only that, I marched drum corps for Cincinnati Glory Drum and Bugle Corps my freshman and sophomore year!  I was pretty good too...  I played the baritone, trombone, and my main instrument, the euphonium (kind of like a little tuba).  I also took lesson's from the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra's bass trombonist.  I was totally on track to major in music in college.  But something happened the summer after my senior year of high school and I stopped playing.  My only explanation is that I burned out.

4.  My personal style has been on a wild ride.  In high school I started going to local punk rock venues and started to rock the look as well.  Dyed my hair all sorts of colors, ripped fishnet tights, studded collars, boyfriends with even crazier hair than mine...  Then I went to Ohio University for my freshman year for college.  There were basically two types of people at OU at the time, "preps" and "hippies".  Because of my past I was definitely not a prep, so I embraced the hippie thing.  Wore patchy pants, long flowy skirts, hemp jewelry, and patchouli.  Even went to a Phish concert.  I came back home for my sophomore year and transferred to UC.  My urban roots came back easily and I started to meld the two looks together.  Today, I try to keep to my punk rock/hippie look in a slight way, but since I'm (freaking) 30 now, I try to stay sophisticated about it too.

5.  The only people that know about my blog that are not bloggers themselves are Matt, my husband, and my mother-in-law (and I didn't even tell her, Matt told her about it when she asked him about Christmas gift ideas).  I don't know why I haven't told anybody.  There really isn't a concrete reason.  I just kind of like the idea of this being my little secret thing.  I have had a blog before.  A vegetarian recipe blog actually.  And everyone I know knew about it.  I might start to spill the beans to some family and friends.  I guess time will tell.

6.  It took me 11 years to get a college degree...  Ugh.  I partied waaaaaay too much in my early 20's and dropped out of school.  Then I got pregnant and married...  THEN I was divorced and a single parent.  Going to school, working full time and somehow finding someone to watch a baby while I was in school just wasn't possible, until I met Matt.  Matt and his family are the reason why I finally graduated.  I try to remember to thank him everyday because if it wasn't for him, I don't think I would be starting my new job on Monday.  He truly is an awesome man.

7.  I start my new job on Monday.  You might have known that.  But did you know I am going to be working as an RN on the adult behavioral unit?  Am I crazy?  Maybe?  Is it my dream job?  YES!  I am so excited.  I have been wanting to work in the mental health field ever since I did my psych clinical rotation.  I have become really passionate about mental health issues, and I feel that with my strengths as a person, I would be an awesome nurse there.  I cannot wait to get going!

There you go!  7 things about me!  Hope I didn't ramble on too badly.

A quick note.  I left my camera in Columbus last weekend at the NYE party.  I'm supposed to get it back on Saturday.  I took some pics of my outfit today on my iPhone...  but there not the best quality (obviously).  We'll see if I get them up?
